I havnt posted here except for my intro. I think mainly because I have so much more weight to lose then most people who post.
Sept 15th I was 285. I am currently 243. I am aiming for 2 lbs a week and have been doing great so far.
I dont feel like I have much to post about most days. I am just plugging along. Eating my 1200 calories and walking on my treadmill. Trying to not focus as much on food as I used to.
I was curious if anyone had any opinions on running shoes. I have been getting blisters on my toes from my current shoes. Anyone love their shoes?

hey guys, im new to the community.
i'm going to start going on a diet in about a week, because right now I'm in a show for my school, and I don't have time to focus on my weight.
I'm 5'9 and, because i'm tall my weight is well distributed, but I could use to lose atleast 10 pounds. My goal isn't that rough, and i know it's possible. I was just wondering if you guys could help me?
how can i lose 10 pounds in like two weeks? Yet, with a reasonable diet that could fit into my life forever?
how do you count calories?
is it smart to join weightwatchers?

Hi I am new to the community.
I started a major lifestyle change Sept 15th last year and have been doing really great so far. After back to back pregnancies and 2 very stressful years (marriage and money issues) I had packed on tons of weight. I have approx 150 pds to lose. Not sure exactly since it has been so long since I have been anywhere close to my "ideal" weight. I really have no idea what it is.
I cut out all soda, fast food, and any "junk" food. I cook more and eat tons more veggies and fruits. My daily calorie goal is 1200. So far I have been able to stick to that 95% of the time. My main problem is going under not over. I bought a treadmill and work out at least one hour a day (usually 1 1/2 hours) 4 days a week. I also do some minimal stretching and hand weights. I plan to incorporate yoga or pillates in the near future.
As of this morning (I weigh on sundays) I am down 43 lbs and I am thrilled! This is the first time I have been able to stick with a diet change. I am determined this time.
I think support is important and since in sept we moved away from friends and family in California and moved to Michigan where we dont know anyone I am a little lacking in that dept. would love to get to know people thourgh the community.
Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

I really wanted to get opinions from other dieters... I've been dieting AND exercising for a month now. I went to being sedentary to exercising 6 days a week and I have STUCK WITH IT religiously for a month. I've only had two diet mishaps since I've started. I've been counting calories (1200 a day) and fat grams.
BUT THE WEIGHT'S NOT COMING OFF!!!
I'm so frustrated, almost to the point of crying over it, and I'm not one to cry. I'm just so tired of trying so hard and seeing NO RESULT.
I'm not about to give up, because I really want to lose the weight, but I was wondering if someone could take a look at my journal (this is my diet journal - thenewrachael) and see if there's something I could do to improve or maybe move things along a little faster.
It just seems that since I have SO much weight to lose that it would come off faster, but it's not. I'd be happy with 1-2 lbs a week, but I'm not even seeing that really.

I would like to share some tips...
I think these are some good tips to obtain healthy weight loss:
1.) Never eat less than 1200 calories a day. You will screw up your body's metabolism will you eat too *little*.
2.) Walking is a great exercise. You can go window shopping at the mall and burn a lot more calories than just sitting and watching tv.
3.) Don't hate yourself because you are overweight. Love yourself and lose weight for *you*.
4.) Always have healthy food with you in case you get hungry while you are out. A healthy granola bar can easily be kept in your pocket in case you get hungry.
5.) Stop binging! Binges when you are feeling sad, bored, angry, etc. will ruin your good eating efforts. Do anything to distract yourself from overeating- put on the radio and dance, get out the house and go for a walk or a drive. Maybe pick up something healthy to eat while you are out. Go to the video store and get a funny movie, jump in the tub and take a shower, go paint your nails, just anything to get away from the temptation of a binge!
I hope these help. :)

Favorite low-calorie, low-fat snacks...
My favorite one has to be yogurt- so many flavors, so many varieties (sugar-free, fat-free, etc.), and so many brands. But not a lot of calories. My favorite flavor has to be either blueberry or strawberry, and any brand or variety will do. What low-fat, low-calorie foods do you like?

Fast food and trying to lose weight?
Today is New Year's Eve and yes my New Year's resolution is to lose more weight. But I am also going to Pizza Hut for lunch with my sister. How do I dine at Pizza Hut and still lose weight? I do so by making sure I plan to eat right, or at least okay. They do have a salad bar, but today I want pizza. So I have decided that when I go there I will only get and eat a "Personal Pan" pizza which has about 600 calories (according to food count books/online resources). Right now I am on a 1800-1600 calorie a day diet. So this would be about 1/3 of my daily caloric need and fits right in as a 1/3 of my 3 daily meals. The fat content is not that great, but I have decided to adjust for this by eat a very low- fat breakfast (whole wheat bread, egg whites) and by eating a low fat dinner (haven't decided what yet). So, what do you eat when you know you will be going to a fast food place for lucnh, dinner? Any low-fat, lower-calorie finds?
Today's tips...my thoughts on scales...
I recently bought a Weight Watchers scale from Sears at my local mall. This scale measures your weight by 0.1 pounds increments and costs $44.99. So for about $45 I can find out if I weight 200 pounds or 199.9 pounds. Does it make a difference, should it? Will owning and using a scale like this make one obsessive about every fraction of a pound they weigh or have to lose? What do you think? I think becoming obsessed with the numbers on a scale can make you get dissappointed if the numbers don't move fast enough. Afterall, it took me 5 years to lose 50 pounds. I handeled the "scale issue" by weighing myself every few days, not every single day. What are your thoughts?
